Planning Your Urban Farm? Get Started with the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map.

The first step to getting started planning for an Urban Farm is to determine the planting zone where you live. The USDA has published a map that helps you determine the general temperature ranges in your area.  Determining your growing zone will be instrumental in determining which vegetables and fruits you select for planting.  When you purchase seed packets, the back of the packet will usually instruct you, based on your zone, when you should plant.  Your zone will often be excluded from the list on the seed packet all together if you don’t live in a region with suitable temperatures for growing that particular crop.

Happy growing!

Sow, what do you think?
